ESTEVAN — Estevan Police Service members responded to several collisions over the weekend, and also dealt with cases of public intoxication and disturbance complaints.
On Nov. 29, the EPS charged an Ontario woman with several Traffic Safety Act offences after she failed to remain at the scene of a collision. An investigation determined the identity of the driver who turned herself in when contacted. It was further determined that she had an expired driver's licence and vehicle registration at the time of the collision. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Police are investigating a reported fraud. The complainant purchased a trailer online and has not received the item. The matter remains under investigation.
A report of a break and enter to a property on Valley Street is being investigated.
The EPS received a complaint about a diesel truck running for an extended period in a residential area. Members attended and advised the owner of the bylaw which prohibits diesel vehicles from idling for more than 15 minutes at a time in residential areas.
Estevan police also received a call for service involving a disturbance at a residence. Upon arrival, members arrested an Estevan man for causing a disturbance and lodged him in cells until sober.
A hit-and-run collision was reported on Nov. 30 from the southeast area of the leisure centre near the entrance to the Power Dodge Arena. Police are investigating and reviewing available video from the area to identify the suspect vehicle.
A report came in of an erratic driver near the intersection of Kensington Avenue and King Street. The caller was able to provide the vehicle licence plate number and the matter remains under investigation.
Police attended to a south-end apartment building in the early evening regarding a disturbance. Police were able to mediate a resolution.
Later, police returned to the same south-end apartment for a second complaint of a disturbance. At this time, an Estevan man was arrested for assaulting a police officer, was lodged in cells until sober and released with a charge.
During a traffic stop, EPS members issued a driver's licence suspension to an Estevan man following a roadside alcohol screening device demand.
Members attended to another disturbance at an apartment building in northeast Estevan. The subject of the complaint was determined to be on the phone and yelling, which was disturbing other tenants. He was cautioned to be quieter in the future.
Police also attended to a complaint of an unruly patron at a local liquor establishment. The 22-year-old Estevan man was contacted by members and sent home for the evening.
The EPS attended to a disturbance between two patrons at a local liquor establishment that turned into a fight. On arrival, members separated the two women involved and escorted them off the property, with charges pending statements from each.
A grossly intoxicated 44-year-old Regina man attended the front counter of the police station and was so inebriated that he didn't know which city he was in. He was arrested for being intoxicated in public and lodged in cells for his own safety, to be released when sober.
Police attended to a disturbance call at a local business early Sunday morning. Upon arrival, a 61-year-old Estevan man was arrested for being intoxicated in public and lodged in cells to be released when sober.
On Dec. 1, EPS members located a stop sign that had been hit and knocked over by a vehicle at the intersection of Sister Roddy Road and Wellock Road. The vehicle left the scene of the collision, and the driver did not report the damage to the owner. Police are also investigating a report of an assault. The investigation is in the early stages and no injuries were reported to have occurred.
Members responded to a collision at the intersection of King Street and Petterson Drive. A vehicle slid through the intersection and collided with the power/control box on the boulevard. The impact caused enough damage to the box that it affected the traffic lights, causing them to stay in flashing red light mode for all directions. City crews have been notified to return the traffic control lights to proper functioning as soon as possible.
The vehicle involved in this collision was located disabled several blocks south of the intersection and the male driver was issued a three-day driver's licence suspension related to alcohol consumption. He was also charged with driving without due care and attention and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
Police received a report impaired drivers (RID) call in relation to a vehicle approaching Estevan on the highway. Police located the vehicle and determined that the driver was not impaired, but was unaccustomed to driving in winter conditions.
