Estevan man arrested multiple times, facing 15 charges

Included are five separate charges of theft under $5,000 and one charge of willful damage.

ESTEVAN - An Estevan man was apprehended a couple of times during the weekend after calls for public intoxication and theft.

Police received a complaint March 21 of a theft from a local business. Through the investigation, the EPS said an intoxicated 22-year-old Estevan man was arrested for theft under $5,000 and was also charged with being out past his court-ordered curfew. He was lodged in cells and released the following morning when sober.

Officers arrested the same man on March 23. During the most recent arrest, he was found to be in possession of a half-consumed bottle of vodka that was determined to have been stolen from a local liquor store. While being transported to the police station, the man damaged a patrol vehicle by kicking the door. 

He was subsequently lodged in cells and appeared in Estevan Provincial Court on March 24, where all outstanding charges were to be brought forward, including five separate charges of theft under $5,000, one charge of willful damage, eight counts of breaching conditions of his release and one charge of consuming alcohol in a public place.

In other recent police news, officers received a driving complaint on March 21 in relation to a vehicle passing others in an unsafe manner on King Street. The vehicle was identified and the matter is under investigation.

The EPS received a report of a theft from a local business during which the suspect left when confronted by staff. Members attended the business, and the matter is under investigation.

Members received a driving complaint on March 22 from east Estevan, but the licence plate information provided by the complainant did not match the vehicle description. Members patrolled the area immediately after receiving the complaint, but were unable to locate the vehicle.

A theft of a 6'-by-10′ utility trailer was reported from the east industrial area. The matter is still under investigation.

EPS members and the Police and Crisis Team (PACT) attended to a report of people causing a disturbance. The situation was mediated and a safe ride home was found for all parties.

Police were dispatched to a local convenience store for a report of a male asking patrons for money as they were entering and leaving the store. The individual was located and was issued a ticket under the panhandling bylaw.

Police received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line in which the complainant was following the suspect vehicle as it was coming into the city limits. The caller provided updates to members regarding their location. A traffic stop was conducted with the suspect vehicle and the driver was found to be sober. The motorist was cautioned regarding the observed driving actions.

An anonymous report was received of a fight between a female and male in the Westview area. A description of the vehicle they were travelling in was provided and EPS members located and intervened in the disturbance. Nothing criminal occurred and both parties were permitted to go their separate ways for the evening.

Police were called to a report of loud music at a residence near the Estevan Market Mall. Members attended and warned the homeowner under the noise bylaw.

Police attended to a disturbance complaint on March 23 that resulted in a 26-year-old Estevan man being arrested for assault. He was charged and released on conditions.

Members attended to a residence following a report of a disagreement between a parent and daughter. The EPS and Social Services staff assessed the circumstances and the child was directed to return to the family home.

Police received a report of mischief to postal boxes in the Hillside area. The matter is still under investigation.
