Sheila Benneweis passed away on April 30, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta. Sheila was born February 8, 1943 in Estevan, Saskatchewan, to Merton and Margaret (Peggy) Robinson. She attended school at Green Mount rural, graduated from Lyndale High School and worked for the Estevan Brick Company. On July 20, 1963 Sheila married Doug Benneweis, her high school sweetheart, and settled in the Oungre area. Together they built a successful farm and ranch and welcomed three children. Sheila and Doug retired in Okotoks, Alberta in 2004.
Sheila is survived by her loving family, including husband Douglas; three children Russell (Alison), Gregory (Lisa) and Lois; grandchildren Rachel and Carter; brothers Edward and James; and several other family members.
She is predeceased by her father, Merton Robinson and mother, Peggy Robinson.
Sheila was a devoted mother and an avid reader. She loved traveling and visited many areas of Europe and North America. Sheila also enjoyed entertaining, dancing and spending time with friends. Doug and Sheila were active members of the Rainbow Country Dancers square dance club, Calgary Friendship Force and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. She will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew her.
A service was held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 8, 2017 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Calgary, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to local animal shelters.
