Elroy was born and raised in Gravelbourg, Sask. He met Helen in Mossbank in 1953 and they were married in Gravelbourg Sask on September 16, 1954. So began their life together. They relocated to Estevan in late 1954 where Elroy worked as a lineman for Saskatchewan Government Telephones and then as an oiler for Utility Coal. Â
Elroy had many interests; hunting, flying and most of all, his passion for anything electronic. He was a visionary and was self-taught in all things electronic. He had the insight to see things from concept to completed form. He built his first radio in 1941 at the young age of 10. Throughout the years, this passion for radios continued. And so, in 1959, he and Helen began their own radio communications business, known as Elroy’s Two Way Radio Service. This evolved to become Industrial Communication Systems Ltd. and Elroy’s children continue to carry the family business and his legacy forward providing customers with radio communications in southeast Saskatchewan and southwest Manitoba.Â
For the past seven years, Elroy together with his son Art were focused on building a new site for the Sun City Prop Busters Model RC Club. He was so looking forward to the grand opening of the field this June 25 and we know, Dad, you will be with us in spirit.Â
Thank you
We thank all the Doctors that cared for Dad, the Home care Nurses, the many friends that visited and helped out and the compassionate care of the Nursing staff on Unit A at St. Joes. A special thank you to Dustin Hall and his staff, to Doug Third for providing the wonderful memorial service and The Beefeater for catering the lunch.
Thank you to everyone for the food, flowers, calls, visits, messages of condolences and donations in Dad’s memory. Â
The family would like to express sincere thanks to all those in the business community that assisted Dad on his last ‘project’, listened to his ‘stories’ and contributed to the building of the new flying field. Â
