CARLYLE — A Carlyle resident kept his $1-million winning Lotto Max ticket safe in an unusual way – inside a hockey card case.
Marcel Littlechief said he was shocked when he scanned his ticket in-store and saw he had won a Maxmillions prize in the Jan. 21 draw. Winning, he said, has felt “strange” and surreal.
“I went home and put the ticket in a hockey card case,” he said. “I was worried about [losing it] before [claiming the prize] and it was nerve-wracking to have it on me.”
Despite the life-changing win, Littlechief continued business as usual.
“I was walking through the store with thoughts running through my head,” he said. “It was business as usual at work the next day because I don’t count my chickens before they hatch.”
Littlechief said he already has ideas on how to enjoy the win.
“There are wants and needs,” he explained. “I have my own place and my own car – I think the money will go towards my retirement and some travel.”
“I would like to attend an Oilers game with ice level seats,” he added, smiling.
He purchased the Lotto Max ticket at Â鶹´«Ã½AVern Plains Co-op in Carlyle and won by matching the Maxmillions numbers 1, 23, 30, 32, 45, 46, and 49. His was the only Maxmillion prize awarded in the draw.
