ALIDA - The Alida Curling Club set Feb. 24 as the date for the Alida Ladies' Bonspiel.
There was seven teams registered: the Lucky Charms (Dorothy Desautels, Anita Boutin, Marissa Logue and Skylar Mailhiot); Blow Your House Down (Melissa Gervais, Bonnie Sloan, Kirsten Fornwald and Natasha Arthur); Hogs in the House (Samantha Peet, Sheri Patton, Krista Widenmaier and Sarah Pures); Sham Rockers (Diane Potapinski, April Junk, Shandi Boutin and Lesa Bendtsen); Grumpy Old Men (Marcia Gervais, Shelly Cowan, Ainsley Cowan and Melynda Charles); Team Arthur (Maureen Arthur, Jenna Jensen, Summer Arthur and Larissa Fitzpatrick); and Shananigans (Margaret Peet, Patti Mowchenko, Alice Mowchenko, Brenda Junk and Jean Ball).
As you can see from the curling team names, there were many different leprechauns and pigs who took over the rink.
At the end of the six-end games there were many curlers who unfortunately had to contribute to the hog pail before the next games began.
The A-event had The Grumpy Old Men facing off against Blow Your House Down which had Blow your House Down as the winners. The B-event saw Team Arthur defeating The Lucky Charms. Congratulations to these two winning teams.
The Hog Pail proceeds were won by Ainsley Cowan. The successful curlers soon picked up their winning prizes before they settled down to a supper of turkey tetrazzini, stuffed pork, baked potatoes, salads and a dessert.
This supper was served to over 65 guests, including the curlers. A great time was had by all participants.
The next event that the curling club will be hosting is the Alida Mixed Open Cash Bonspiel on March 15. To register contact Margaret Peet at 306-485-7245 by March 11.
Don’t forget, Sunday breakfasts are still available at the rink. So far the breakfast challenge total is 81. Come out and help break this total.
