Assiniboia event brings Alice's Wonderland to life for kids

The success of a first-of-its-kind princess tea party held in Assiniboia will now become an annual event thanks to Giselle's ShowTyme Dance Studio

ASSINIBOIA — A unique event was held in Assiniboia on Nov. 19 that gave children the opportunity to be a prince or princesses for a day. Giselle’s ShowTyme Dance Studio held an interactive tea party filled with stories, along with delicacies such as a chocolate fondue and sundae bar, Disney princesses and, of course, dancing.

The ticketed event saw 200 people attend for the Princess Tea Party done in the theme of Alice in Wonderland, and attendees all attested to having a tea-riffic time.

Characters from the whimsical story, Alice in Wonderland, met attendees at the door and guided them down the rabbit hole to the party itself. Lights and music filled the air with tables decorated with all thing’s tea party.

Each princess received a snap bracelet, a DIY crown kit and necklaces as their gift for attending.

The Mad Hatter introduced everyone, which included the Disney princesses, and formally opened the sundae bar and chocolate fondue. Guests could also enjoy goodies and snacks at their table.

The story of Alice in Wonderland was read followed by guests receiving pictures to enable them to get the autographs of their favorite Disney characters. A lively dance party followed the formal part of the program.

Giselle Wilson of GSD Studio, says, “I wanted to bring an event to town for little girls and boys to come and really enjoy themselves get back to being kids and interacting with each other. I wanted to bridge the gap between younger and older and give them an event where they can dress up and feel special. I have been wanting to do this for many years and without a ton of help from my family and friends it would have never happened. “

Wilson says the assistance she received helped support a vision she has had for many years to host an activity like this. The afternoon was funded and hosted by GSD Studio of Assiniboia and was the first event of its kind held in the community.

Giselle adds, “The highlight of the event was seeing the excitement of the prince and princesses when they met their Disney princesses.”

The event entailed weeks of planning, ordering and organizing as well as decorating. “I had a great deal of help with the GSD dancers who volunteered, as well as my family and friends, numbering about 30,” affirms Wilson.

Following the success of the inaugural princess party, GSD affirms this will become an annual event for GSD Studio, and the community.
