Name: Sasha Mantei
Club: Outram-Madigan 4-H Club
Age group: Intermediate
Age: 15
Years in 4-H: Nine
Sasha Mantei has been a member of the Outram-Madigan 4-H Club for nearly a decade, and has encountered a lot of the benefits associated with the organization.
Her father, Jordan, was in 4-H when he was younger, and once his children were old enough to join, he encouraged them to do so.
“It seemed pretty good, so I kept going with it,” said Mantei.
She has learned leadership skills, interpersonal abilities and a work ethic. Mantei has been to the annual 4-H Show and Sale in Estevan, and she has gained knowledge about judging animals, which helps when she’s in the field with her father.
“It helps you judge what is a good animal and what they can bring to your farm,” she said.
Her public speaking abilities have also improved.
“It helps in school, because we do a lot of presentations, so it helps when you’re talking in front of people,” said Mantei.
She recommends 4-H to other people. Young people who have an interest in cattle or public speaking will enjoy it. And the Outram-Madigan Club is a good one, too, Mantei said, as it’s inclusive.
“A lot of the older members like to help the younger members in understanding what we’re doing at that time, or helping them with their animals,” said Mantei.
