SASKATOON - Average retail gasoline prices in Saskatoon are 134.73 c/L, down 0.4 c/L from last week's 135.09 c/L, according to GasBuddy's daily survey. This compares with the national average that has increased 1.4 c/L in the last week to 134.38 c/L, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
"As April wraps up, gas prices in Canada are showing a bit of mixed behavior: while most provinces saw prices edge higher, the Prairies — specifically Manitoba and Saskatchewan — bucked the trend with slight declines," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
The national average has decreased 19.5 c/L during the last month and stands 36.1 c/L lower than this day one year ago.
"Oil prices, which had previously fallen into the $50 per barrel range during the height of Trump’s trade war, have since rallied slightly and are now holding in the low $60s, putting renewed upward pressure on gas prices. In addition, seasonal increases in demand are contributing to higher prices across much of the country,” said De Haan.
“Looking ahead, with Canada’s Federal election today, Canadians should keep in mind that if the federal carbon tax pause is lifted or reintroduced, it would likely eventually add upward pressure to pump prices once again. For now, Canadians should expect continued volatility at the pump as we move deeper into the spring driving season."
