"Average gasoline prices in Canada have inched higher, driven by the final step in the transition to summer gasoline in parts of the country," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "This increase isn’t tied to politics or U.S. tariffs — which remain paused for now— but is instead a result of seasonal factors, something that happens nearly every year. Concerns about refinery maintenance have been fairly muted so far, largely due to broader concerns over economic softness, and demand remains subdued. However, in parts of Eastern Canada where prices have remained relatively low, the final phase of the summer gasoline changeover is still a few weeks away, meaning prices there could soon climb as well. For regions that have already completed the switch, continued uncertainty around the outcome of the coming election and direction of economy will likely prevent any major increases for now."
