SASKATCHEWAN - Environment Canada has started to lift the extreme cold warning that was issued for much of the province.
The advisory was issued on Wednesday afternoon, but it was repealed in southern Saskatchewan and much of central Saskatchewan on Thursday. It is still in place in some areas, including the Battlefords, Unity, Wilkie and Prince Albert.
The initial advisory stated very cold wind chills are expected, with the coldest expected to be -40 to -45 C.
Environment Canada reminds people to cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
"If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside," the advisory states.
An extreme cold warning was also issued last week across the province and remained in place for several days, as temperatures dipped below -30 C and the wind chills were below -50 C.
