SaskAlert is sending out an emergency alert test to ensure future alerts for disasters or risks to public safety are sent out quickly.

SASKATCHEWAN - Residents across the province will be getting a scheduled emergency alert this afternoon.

In a news release, SaskAlert said they will test the provincial emergency alert system on Wednesday at 1:55 p.m.

According to SaskAlert, the test will be issued by the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) via the national public alerting system for Canada, Alert Ready.

Some areas where the alert will appear include compatible wireless devices, TV, radio, and via the SaskAlert app.

SaskAlert said testing helps ensure they can get out real emergency alerts quickly in cases where there are disasters or risks to the public's safety.

During the test, SaskAlert said the alert will let people know it's a test and that no action is required.

The alert will also mention there would be instructions to follow in case there is a real emergency to protect yourself and your family.

At the end of the alert, it will say to visit Alert Ready's website for more information.
