Safety competition a good closer for Mining Week in Saskatchewan

Teams working in underground and surface rescue displayed their skills in seven separate events.

SASKATOON — As “Mining Week” wrapped up in Saskatchewan, several safety teams were put through their paces with strong competition.

Teams from 18 mine sites around Saskatchewan at the 54th Saskatchewan Mining Association Emergency Response/Mine Rescue Skills Competition held at the World Trade Centre at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon.

Teams working in underground and surface rescue displayed their skills in seven separate events. The overall “surface” winner was the team from the K+S Potash Mine at Bethune. The overall “underground” winner was the team from Nutrien’s Cory Mine.

OVERALL

Surface Winner – K+S Potash Canada Bethune Runner Up – Westmoreland Estevan

Underground Winner – Nutrien Cory Runner Up – Nutrien Lanigan

The Individual Event winners of the 54th Annual Emergency Response/Mine Rescue Skills Competition are:

BENCH TECHNICIAN

Underground Winner – Owen Gunther, Nutrien Lanigan

Underground Runner Up – Tyson Devine, SSR Mining Seabee

Surface Winner – Mosaic Belle Plaine Runner Up – Westmoreland Mining Estevan
