RCMP cruiser hit by semi during traffic stop in Alberta

The officer was standing by the vehicle he had pulled over when a semi struck his cruiser. He received minor injuries as a result of flying debris.

Claresholm, Alta. – Claresholm RCMP are currently on scene at a motor vehicle collision involving an RCMP police vehicle.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., an RCMP officer was on Highway 2 northbound, north of Stavely, conducting a traffic stop in a fully marked police car with its emergency lights activated. A northbound semi tractor trailer failed to move to the left lane and struck the police car. The officer was standing at the driver's side door of the vehicle he had pulled over when the collision occurred. He received minor injuries as a result of flying debris. The driver of the vehicle in the traffic stop was uninjured, although his vehicle was damaged.

The RCMP collision reconstructionist is currently on scene. The investigation continues. Motorists should expect traffic delays in this area.
