Homes constructed with the Indigenous New Homes Rebate will save up to $3,000 annually on their power and energy bills, SaskPower says in a release.

SaskPower has launched and Indigenous New Homes Rebate that offers financial support to eligible Indigenous communities to help make new home builds more energy efficient during the construction phase.

Many customers in northern communities rely on electric heat for their homes, which can cause high power bills.

Homes constructed with the Indigenous New Homes Rebate will save up to $3,000 annually on their power and energy bills, SaskPower says in a release.

“We understand that affordability is a priority for many families across the province, and this rebate will help make new homes in Indigenous communities more energy efficient, helping customers living in these new homes and lower their power bills,” said Rhea Brown, executive vice-president of Customer Experience and Procurement at SaskPower.

“Making homes energy efficient during construction is more effective than retrofitting a home later. By targeting this rebate at the construction phase, we expect to see improved energy efficiency and lower power bills over time.”

The Indigenous New Homes Rebate will provide residents with energy savings and will reduce the demand for power on SaskPower’s electrical grid, according to SaskPower.

The rebate is open to eligible Indigenous communities in Northern Saskatchewan who rely on electric heat as their primary heating source.

The rebate is funded by the Government of Canada’s Future Electricity Fund.
