REGINA — Lt. Gov. Russ and Donna Mirasty are welcoming home new artwork into the lieutenant governor’s teepee at Government House in Regina Wednesday at 1 p.m. and inviting the public to join them in the celebration.
The artwork was painted on a large teepee liner by Saskatchewan students. The ceremony in celebration of the students' art will include performances by powwow dancers and the Payepot School drummers and singers. In addition, Maristy will bring greetings from the king, there will be opportunities to hear from the young artist and the elders who blessed the liner earlier in the day will be on hand. Beverages and snacks will be offered outside while guests take turns viewing the artwork in the teepee.
In August of 2020, the Lieutenant Governor’s Office purchased a teepee to be used for ceremonial and educational purposes at Government House. The teepee included a large liner and Mirasty saw that blank liner as an opportunity to engage youth in an art project.
He invited students from Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert and Chief Payepot School of Piapot First Nation to create designs to cover the canvas. The students learned about “teepee teachings” and what they learned helped inspire their original, vibrant paintings.
This event is open to the public, free of charge, and no registration is necessary. It is an outdoor event, but seating will be provided. In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved indoors. For more information, visit the LGO website at
