Donald Lloyd Pontius: 1942 – 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce Don’s passing on December 8, 2024, at the age of 82 years. He was predeceased by his mother and father Elizabeth (nee Henry) and Ralph Pontius; brothers and their spouses George (Evelyn), Elmer (Emma) and O’Ray (Muriel); sisters and their spouses Esther (Tom) Hargreaves, Elizabeth (Robert) Beatty, Ella (Clint) Dyer, and Joan (Lorne) Crawford; as well as granddaughter Carly Elisha Jordan.
Don is lovingly remembered by Joan (nee Tourigny) his wife of 61 years; daughters Teresa (Terry) Jordan and Marcia (Cory Brandhagen); and grandchildren Will Jordan, Paige Chambers and Hunter Murray; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was a kind, gentle and generous man. He had a caring heart and was always ready to help those in need with a donation or any support he could provide. Don’s greatest love was his family and next to that, the large circle of friends that he built across the years. Don also loved golf, the Lake, his Rose Garden, hunting, his dogs, hockey, and was a long-time season ticket holder for the Saskatchewan Roughriders; he lived life to the fullest. He played hockey for the Carlyle Cougars from the age of 16 and was especially proud to be a member of the Cougar family.
Don and Joan were married in Weyburn in 1963 and settled in Carlyle. Teresa was born in 1966 and Marcia in 1968 before they moved their family to Regina in 1971. In 1990 Don and Joan started Prairie Land together and built this company into a highly successful business; Don and Joan were grateful for the many friendships they built through this work and for all those who supported their success. Joan retired first and Don eventually followed in about 2014. They were able to build a house down Â鶹´«Ã½AV where they enjoyed spending winters.
However, in the final analysis, there was only one place that Don truly called home. When asked recently where he lived, Don was heard to say, “I live in Regina, but Carlyle is my home”. Don was a wonderful husband and father and was a loyal friend to all. He will be deeply missed.
Celebration of Life will be held at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be livestreamed.
