With great sadness, the family of the late Pearl Lazaroff announce her passing at the Kamsack and District Nursing Home, Kamsack, SK, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 92 years.
Pearl was born on January 12, 1933, to Alec Popoff and Pearl (Ostaforoff) Popoff on a farm near Verigin, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm and attended Verigin School and, for a few years, she attended school at the Doukhobor Prayer Home. She learned to read and write in the Cyrillic writing system and was very proud of that accomplishment.
Pearl moved to Verigin with her family and shortly after met Mike Lazaroff. They were married in 1952. Mike and Pearl moved to the family farm northwest of Canora and had three children, Marlene, Jerry, and Carrol. The family worked hard to run a successful farm.
After the children had grown up, Mike and Pearl purchased a home in Canora. Pearl started working at the Canora Nursing Home and graduated as a Special Care Aide. She continued in this vocation for ten years.
Mike and Pearl travelled extensively in their later years, visiting China, Thailand, Mexico, and many destinations in the U.S.A. After Mike passed away, Pearl also travelled to Australia with her daughter Carrol.
Pearl never liked being idle, so she filled her time with gardening, curling, many crafts, quilting, embroidery, cross-stitching, knitting, playing cards, and the Doukhobor choir.
For most of her life, Pearl followed the Doukhobor ways but, in her later years, accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour.
In 2017, Pearl moved to Cummings Court in Canora, where she resided for three years. Due to declining health, she moved to the Kamsack Nursing Home in 2020. She enjoyed the care and staff at the nursing home very much. Pearl passed away with her family by her side on February 18, 2025.
Pearl was predeceased by her parents, Alec and Pearl Popoff; her husband, Mike Lazaroff; brother, Peter Popoff; sisters, Ann Fofonoff and Tina Zbitniff; and son-in-law, Don Slowski.
She is survived by her children, Marlene (Doug) Blatter of Fort Qu'Appelle, Jerry (Lena) Lazaroff of the family farm, and Carrol (Don) Slowski of Canora, and her ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
In Pearl’s honour, a funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 24, 2025, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home, Canora, SK.
