WILKIE — Wilkie Outlaws goaltender, Jared Herle, was recognized for his outstanding performance in week 10 of the Sask. West Hockey League regular season action, helping the Outlaws steal two points from Edam Jan. 7.
Week 10 regular season action included five games in the league.
League President, Joe Cey, says, “Edam continued their dominance of the Unity Miners and trounced them 8-1 in Edam. Veteran linemates Mitch Wall (4-2) and Cody Danberg (1-4) led the 3 Stars offence. Miners Brett Vanderveer was bombarded with 50 shots, turning aside 42.
Kindersley Klippers continue to dominate the senior men’s hockey league beating Kerrobert Tigers Jan. 6 by a score of 9-1. Their Jan. 7 game featuring Kindersley, who maintained their perfect season beating Hafford.
“Kindersley vs. Hafford was a wild and woolly one as the teams were tied at five goals each going into the third period when the Klippers exploded for five consecutive goals coasting to the win,” adds Cey.
The Wilkie Outlaws travelled to Edam to play the 3-Stars Jan. 6 and fans were treated to an entertaining hockey game that looked like overtime until veteran Mike Stiller fired in the winner on a power play with 25 seconds left in regulation time. Goaltender Jared Herle was the first star of that game turning aside 42 of 45 shots on net. League points leader Brock Harrison, at 1-3 had, another strong game for the Outlaws.
It looked like the Unity Miners were going to capture their first win playing the Kerrobert Tigers on Jan. 7, when they kept on pace with the visiting Tigers tied after regulation. However, Rylan Freed of the Tigers had other ideas scoring the overtime winner at the 2:30 mark. Cey notes Miners’ goaltender, Ryan Rewerts, was outstanding for Unity facing 46 shots and stopping 41 of those. Brayden Schultz had a solid night as well, scoring two goals and earning one assist.
Starting the second half of the regular season, Kindersley remains on top of the SWHL standings while Wilkie and Edam are tied for second spot, both with 16 points, which includes eight wins in 10 games played.
League leading players from the website show Wilkie’s Brock Harrison at top spot with 36 points including 18 goals and 18 assists. Ryan Keller, Blake Young and Rory Gregoire sit in the top 10.
Week 11 includes a couple rare weekday games Jan. 11 between the Klippers and 3-Stars in Edam, and Jan. 12 Macklin will play host to the Wilkie Outlaws. There will be another five games Jan. 14-15. Regular season wraps up Jan. 22 with league playoffs beginning Jan. 27 weekend. Provincial draws will be announced in the near future.
