Wheelie fun afternoon as Prairie Branches pedals new bike purchased

A four-seater pedal-assisted bike was seen all around Unity June 13 and Prairie Branches clients and staff enjoyed taking the new purchase for a spin.

UNITY — June 13 was an exciting day around Unity as Prairie Branches clients and care workers practised pedalling their new Surrey Bike around town for the first time.

The two-bench, four-seater pedal-assisted bicycle was purchased from a company in Calgary.

“We had been researching tandem bikes and trikes for a couple of years as cycling is a favourite summer activity for many of our participants,” Eunice Washkowsky, executive director for Prairie Branches Enterprises, says.

“We wanted something that could work for the majority of the individuals we support, and this came up as an excellent option. We purchased one for Unity and one for Biggar. Biggar participants are eagerly awaiting their bike. Our participants from Kerrobert and Wilkie are welcome to travel to Unity or Biggar to use them also."

Funds to purchase the bikes comes from the generous donations Prairie Branches receive and the fundraising events that people in the community support. Rain or shine, Washkowsky says you will see their group on the streets of Unity. The organization says they owe gratitude to all who support their initiatives.
