UNITY — The Unity Composite High School Warriors were uncharitable hosts when the Eatonia Spartans came to town Sept. 15, with the final score of the football game being 80-14 in favour of the home team.
The Warriors shut out the Spartans in the first quarter while putting up 12 points of their own. By halftime, the Spartans had scored a touchdown and a convert for eight points, but the Warriors were up to 28.
The Unity defence held strong again in the third quarter, shutting out the Spartans once more, while the offence scored another 16 points, to make the score 56-8 at the end of the third. The final quarter saw the Warriors score another 24 points to add to their lead and the Spartans had a touchdown to bring their score up to double digits.
Jared Abrams scampered into the end zone four times, contributing 32 points to the Warriors’ total. Kicker Dawson Rusk made good on six conversion attempts, adding another 12 to Unity’s side of the scoreboard. The remaining 38 points of the 80-total were contributed by a variety of players, showing the depth of the Warriors’ roster.
Coach Kyle Clark said, “Thursday was a lot of fun. It was great to have some of our guys who missed week one against Kerrobert back in the lineup. Thursday was also a great opportunity for some of our more inexperienced players to get some reps in game. We are really happy how the team is developing so far and we are excited to host Macklin in our annual ‘under the lights’ game on Thursday, Sept. 29.”
With the Warriors having a bye week, they will not play again until that “under the lights” game, but Kerrobert will visit Kindersley and Macklin goes to Eatonia Sept. 23.
