Unity year-end recital announces new beginnings

Audience members were treated to a showcase of top performances from the Revolution Dance Studio as well as being the first to learn that former dancer, and current instructor, Courtney Smith would be taking over and renaming the business.

UNITY — On May 13 the Revolution Dance company presented the first night of their recital and were glad to finally be able to have a public performance again. It was a night of great music, wonderful dance performances and a big announcement.

The recital’s theme was “What’s in a Name” and featured a wide variety of pop tunes like Hey Mickey, My Sharona, Good Golly Miss Molly, and many other favourites. The dance styles ranged through hip hop, jazz, ballet and tap.  Dances were choreographed by Miss Lindsay Strus, Miss Emma Strus, Miss Courtney Smith and Miss Madison Gilbert.

The costumes were stunning, and the girls shone even in their hip hop raggy jeans.  There were beautiful braids and bouncy curls and tulle and sequins everywhere.  The dancers exhibited amazing physical prowess and strength, grace, beauty and athleticism.

A huge crowd of fans cheered and whistled after each number, and groaned appropriately at announcer Scott Smith’s "dad jokes."

At the end of the program, after one of the best finale dances ever, Miss Lindsay Strus gave her thanks to all the dancers, parents and behind-the-scenes helpers who make such a production possible, and then Miss Courtney Smith proudly announced that beginning this fall she would be the new manager of the company, under the new name Stand Out Dance Collective.

The new dance studio announcement included these words, "It’s about a lot more than just dancing — it’s about nurturing mental, emotional and spiritual health as the young dancers develop physical skills and have a lot of fun.  It’s a safe place for students to grow and learn and express themselves, as well as learning to compete, if that’s their desire."

Miss Courtney says she is thrilled to embark on this new venture and judging by the cheers and squeals and clapping from all the dancers, they are delighted to come under her tutelage.
