Jim Gerein of Phippen was dismayed to find 45 dead pheasants, killed by a wild mink. Gerein had been raising the pheasants for the annual Wilkie wildlife banquet.
Unity Pharmacist Harvey Housen won the 1972 “Bowl of Hygeia” award for Saskatchewan, given for outstanding service to the community. He won a three-day trip to Virginia from the sponsor of the awards, Robins pharmaceutical manufacturing company. The award was described as “one of the most coveted in the pharmacy profession.”
Luseland Busy Bees met at the home of Mary Smith, with Jean Gottfried presiding.
Theresa Del Frari of Unity was awarded one of two Saskatchewan Wheat Pool bursaries, in a province-wide competition. Del Frari was attending the College of Commerce at the University of Saskatchewan.

“New owners take over Herald” and “New owners take over Press” were the front page headlines in both The Wilkie Press and the Northwest Herald, as it was announced Lisa and Dan Feser had purchased Press Herald Publications from Mark and Joanne Urlacher.
Two McLurg High School students won provincial gold medals in their respective divisions in the Saskatchewan High School Sand Green Golf Championships: Melinda Wagner and Mark Lorenz. Fellow McLurg student Amanda Johnson won bronze.
Winning grand aggregate awards at the Unity fall were Colette Mock – needlework and handicrafts, Laurie Leeson – hobbies, Diane Skog – photography, Lynn Romanowski – home baking, Mary Biggart – home preserves, Alice Wagner – plants and flowers and Doreen Leslie – fruits and vegetables.
