Unity Sr. Cardinals sit at singles record of 1-1-1

Unity Sr. Cardinals, back in NSRBL after a two-year absence, are sitting at a 1-1-1 record and team manager Cory Wildeman says they are getting closer to finding their stride.

UNITY — As of June 1, the Unity Sr. Cardinals, back in the NSRBL after a two-year absence, have a singles record meaning they have one win, one tie and one loss in their opening three games.

The record ties them in the standings with the North Battleford Beavers who have an identical season record. Interestingly enough, the tie both teams recorded was in a May 30 game against each other.

The Cards play in Lloydminster June 5 and will return to home diamonds June 11 hosting the Meadow Lake Sox.

Former Wilkie Brewer player, Rob Cey, sits in eighth place in league standings with a batting average of .333 and an on-base percentage of .417 after 12 plate appearances that he earned. Alex David is the next closest Cardinal in the standings with a .200 batting average and .429 on-base percentage.

Thomas Feser and Colby Frocklage are listed in the top five pitchers for the league as of June 1.

“The team is starting to gel nicely,” says team manager, Cory Wildeman, says of the 2023 Cards.

“The younger guys are bringing energy, enthusiasm and some needed athleticism for the slightly older guys. After three games we are getting closer to finding our stride.”

The Cardinals held a slo-pitch tournament the last weekend in May as they are hoping to get enough funding for diamond renovations. Wildeman said they are appreciative of the volunteers, participants and fans who supported their efforts, and it is hoped to make this an annual event. No diamond makeover plants are finalized yet.
