Unity Museum hosted free, fun Family Day activity

Family Day was full of activity at Unity and District Heritage Museum as both outdoor and indoor events were held for attendees, all provided free to participants

UNITY - The tradition continues at Unity and District Heritage Museum as they once again hosted Family Fun Day Feb. 20.

Unity Baptist Church congregation helped in the kitchen, providing hot dogs and hot chocolate to visitors.

Museum resident Pat Uzelman was kept busy giving wagon rides throughout the afternoon with his team of horses, Luke, and Duke.

In their continued efforts to engage with the community, Unity Fire Department members Matthew Keller, Billy Pitt, Justin Meredith and McKenzie Meechance kept the outdoor bonfire going to help warm those who wanted to enjoy the weather.

The 2023 event featured a new attraction with Randy Sander and Amanda Grant on-site with their sled dog team. Visitors could watch the team take off and return, with the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the canines. Although sled dog rides were not part of the activity, one lucky volunteer, Geraldine Barrett, was awarded a ride in the sled.

“The day was a free event, but many of those who attended were happy to provide a donation,” a Unity museum spokesperson said.

“Attendees also commented that as long as the museum keeps hosting the Family Day activity, they will keep coming out.”

The weather may have played a factor in numbers being down from the 2022 event but organizers sill say there was a good turnout.

Now the UDHM group focuses on opening for the summer and are already in planning stages for July 1, Canada Day activity at the museum grounds.

Until then, museum supporters can continue to attend weekly Sunday brunches at the Adanac Hall that serves as the committee’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The pancake brunches will run until April.
