SASKATOON 鈥 Chantal Wagner, weather/traffic anchor at Global News Saskatoon, took part in a fast-paced plant-based challenge to kick off Gardenscape in Saskatoon, March 25.
Members of the media sign up for the chance to get their hands dirty and test their gardening skills in front of Gardenscape attendees. Gardenscape, a gardening trade show held in Saskatoon March 25 to 27, was back after a two-year pandemic-caused hiatus.
Working alongside an expert, the amateur gardener media personalities – Landen Young, 98 Cool FM; Alex Brown, CTV Saskatoon; Ben Brooks, 600 CJWW and Stacey Cooper, 96.3 Cruz FM, along with Wagner – chose and placed flowers and other plants to create a live potted arrangement within a specified time period.
As Wagner’s birthday happened to be the same day, she created her pot theme around the “colours of a birthday cake and the bright colours” she likes to wear on TV.
The winner of the event is chosen by applause from the audience, with CTV and 98 Cool tying for first place at this year’s event. Wagner said the only prize was “bragging rights.”
Wagner said this was her first time out representing Global in public and she enjoyed meeting other members of the media in Saskatoon, adding “it was so nice to get out and enjoy a fun event with the public … You could really smell spring in the air at Prairieland Park and people also looked happy to enjoy an event.”
