UNITY — Unity Fire Department responded to five calls in May.
Volunteer firefighters responded to one motor vehicle collision, one lift assist for the ambulance, one rural grass fire call and one STARS landing at the hospital.
Crews did report to one in-town fire in a backyard. UFD Fire Chief, Dwaine Kopp, says, “This is a reminder that you must have a permitted fire pit in your yard and only firewood can be burned. There is no burning of household garbage or yard refuse allowed, ever.”
Fire crews across the province continue to be mindful of changing fire risks and the Saskatchewan Spatial Fire Management System shows an updated map daily of fire weather indexes from extreme to low fire hazard areas. Minimal moisture has been received in and around Unity meaning the conditions remain dry and residents should use extra precautions to prevent fires.
Kopp also says UFD has yet to hear back on the grant announced earlier in the spring to help fire departments with the purchase of extrication equipment. Sask. Gov't announces $5.6M for province's fire depts - Â鶹´«Ã½AV.ca
