WILKIE ‑ The Town of Wilkie has sent a petition regarding the re-opening of ER services in Wilkie to MLA, Ryan Domotor who will personally deliver them to Minister of Health Paul Merriman and Minister of Rural and Remote Health Everett Hindley. The petition was started by concerned citizens in the community and reiterates to the ministers what town Council has been indicating to them over the past several months. I encourage residents to exercise your voice by calling your local MLA and Ministry Hindley’s office to voice your continued concerns.
Some major capital projects for the year have now been completed. The solar panel project at the Saskcan Community Center was completed in the middle of September. We are currently working on getting the data onto our website which will include how much power is being generated from each system. There is a 100 kW system on the ice plant and another 100 kW system on the house meter which meters the rest of the facility. Also coming soon is a video on the project that was completed by Prairie Sun Solar out of Regina.
The new ice plant has been installed and is up and running. Skaters took to the ice for the first time on Oct. 13 and we look forward to another great season down at the arena. The curling rink ice should be ready to go in early November, there were some unexpected repairs needed to the brine header trench.
The storm sewer relining project began a couple of weeks ago. Insituform Technologies Limited has once again been hired to complete this work. They will clean and camera approximately 800 linear meters of storm sewers. The videos will be reviewed by the engineer and recommendations will be made to town council about which areas should be relined. Relining is less invasive to the rest of the infrastructure. Some areas may still need to be dug out and replaced depending on the condition of the piping. This year’s project is budgeted at $330,000.00. This project is fully funded through utility revenue and the Canada-Community Building Fund.
Town council is planning to hold a public meeting, so please watch the paper and social media for this date. Items on the agenda include pavement replacement, update on ER services and information on capital projects such as the ice plant and solar panels.
