Santa Claus makes special stop at 2nd Avenue Cinema

30th year of Santa Day at 2nd Avenue Cinema in Unity held Dec. 2.

UNITY – For the 30th year in a row, Santa came to Unity a little early to visit all the good boys and girls at the annual Santa Day, held at 2nd Avenue Cinema.

This year’s event was sponsored by the Unity and District Chamber of Commerce, North West Terminal Ltd., Bell’s Construction Ltd. and Compass Minerals. Each year, the event brings approximately 200 people to both showings.

The Super Mario Bros. movie was shown this year prior to Santa’s big arrival. Once the movie was over, the man in red made his way to the front, where children lined up to tell him what was on their wish list and parents could take their pictures.

Theatre co-owner Debbie Ackerlund is always happy to be a part of this annual community event.

“We are proud to be doing this for the past 30 years. We always enjoy watching the kids grow up over the years,” said Ackerlund.

Ackerlund was proud to add that even through the pandemic, Santa Day was not a missed event.

“We had to space people out more and Santa had to watch how close he was to the children, but we were able to still go forward with the day,” said Ackerlund.

The annual event is free to families due to the sponsorships of businesses in and around Unity.
