UNITY‑ Hockey teams in the communities of Macklin, Unity and Wilkie continued in the win column March 18, 19 and 20 as hockey playoffs are still providing fans plenty to cheer about.
A two-year playoff hiatus made players ravenous for an extended season and they are winning playoff series as the result. The Press-Herald / SASKTODAY.ca have been told by several sources that the number of teams playing this deep into provincial and league playoffs is unprecedented.
The West Central Wheat Kings continue to defy some playoff predictions as they defeated the Saskatoon Ice Hawks in game one on the road of the Centre Four League final. Game two goes in Unity March 26 with game three back in Saskatoon. If games four and five are necessary, they are set for April 2 and 3 in a home-and-home series. Winning north division would send them to SAAHL final against the south division winner.
The Sask. West Hockey League final features the Wilkie Outlaws and the Macklin Mohawks, with Macklin currently leading the best-of-five series two games to one, with game four set for March 26 in Wilkie. If a deciding game five is necessary it will return to Macklin Communiplex.
Minor hockey teams:
Macklin Mohawks continue to thrill the fans with three minor hockey teams in both provincial and league finals.
The U18 Mohawks tied Redvers 4-4 in opening game of their provincial final with game two back in Macklin, date TBA.
Macklin U15 Mohawks beat Lafleche/Wood River in game one of their provincial final, by a score of 8-4 and will play game two back on home ice, date TBA. The same team will play Unity in the Highway 14 League final with game one taking place in Unity March 23 and game two back in Macklin March 27.
U13 Mohawks won the opening game of their provincial final against the Rouleau Ramblers and will host game two at home March 26. The team is also in the league final facing the National Outlaws, earning a decided victory in game one with game two set at home March 29.
In Wilkie, the U13 National Outlaws, comprised of Biggar and Wilkie players, are playing Macklin for the Highway 14 League final. The team went down to a 13-3 defeat in game one and will return March 29 to Macklin for game two.
In Unity, Unity’s U15 Lazers are playing the Macklin Mohawks for the league final, games March 23 in Unity and March 26 in Macklin.
