UNITY -- The Unity Cardinals in their return to the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League, after a two-year hiatus, will play a third and deciding game in the league semi-final against Standard Hill Lakers.
Recently named team MVP, Garin Scherr, has been an asset to the team’s success this season. Cooper Olson, named league’s top batter, of the Lakers, is making sure their team retains their top spot in the league momentum.
After a 9-6 loss by the Cards in game one of the best-of-three-series on the road, the birds came back home July 25 ensuring a game three would be played, defeating Standard Hill 7-2.
Game three will take place July 27 on the Lakers home diamond with the North Battleford Beavers awaiting the winner to play the league final, after the Beavers beat Meadow Lake two straight games in their semi final series.
Scherr, along with teammates Skyler Mackie, Easton McLean and Tommy Feser will be part of the 22U Team Saskatchewan competing at Baseball Canada Nationals August long weekend in Winnipeg.
Ball season will not end with league championship finals as the Cardinals will head to Gull Lake for their provincial championships Aug 11-13.
