LUSELAND — We are very excited to have partnered with the Luseland Credit Union, OSY Rentals and the Luseland Rink Improvement Committee for the purchase of a new-to-us Zamboni. Our 1989 Zamboni has served us well over the past 21 seasons but was starting to have some problems. We are excited about this great addition to the arena to keep our rink viable for future generations and are appreciative of our funding partners.
The town office is currently undergoing renovations. The office and council chambers are seeing a fresh coat of paint and will be getting new flooring. The office also welcomes Krystal Bazylinski as town administrator effective March 1. Krystal and new assistant administrator Caitlynn Jahner have been busy doing some spring clean-ups and changes to the space. Please stop in and say hello to our new staff.
The Luseland Hall Board is excited to finally have a new projector in the hall. The Luseland Credit Union donated $8,500 towards the purchase while the hall board paid for the remaining balance of $2,071.84 for the total projector cost of $10,571.84. We hope to have a new theatre schedule and add this back to our recreational complement. We would like to encourage people to come out and help in running shows. We would love some new volunteers to help ensure that we can continue to offer programming at our community hall.
March came in like a lion this year and town maintenance staff have been busy with snow removal efforts. Our public works crew put in many hours of hard work and effort to get streets cleared as quickly as possible after the blizzard that hit on the weekend of March 2 and 3.
At our February council meeting, a couple of bylaws were updated to regulate the operation of snowmobiles and ATVs within specified boundaries and an update to the animal control bylaw specifically geared towards Bell Acres Golf Course. To help eliminate damage to the new synthetic greens and the new sprinkler system, golf course executives had approached council regarding making the golf course pet-free and to stop ATV and snowmobiles from accessing it. A lot of money has been spent on upgrades to Bell Acres and we ask people to please adhere to the updated bylaws and help ensure the protection of this amazing recreational space.
We are now using Optionpay at the town office. Residents are now able to use Visa or Mastercard to pay municipal taxes, utility bills, development permits, pet and business licences, swimming pool fees, arena fees, transfer station fees and others. The town can even accept donations using this third-party payment processor. You can use this on the town website, in person or by scanning a QR code on signs located around the town. We hope this will be an added convenience to our residents.
