New craft club: Luseland Embroidery Club's evolution

Artisans and crafters have a new opportunity in Luseland as the former Prairie Sunset Embroider's Guild has evolved into craft club, now known as Artistic Endeavors.

LUSELAND — Recognizing evolution is part of life, the Prairie Sunset Embroiders’ Guild is changing.

“We are going to evolve to a group open to all ladies who do crafts of any kind, and we encourage people to come try us out,” Luseland resident, and PSEG spokesperson, Barb Klinger says.

The Luseland chapter of the Saskatchewan Embroiderers’ Guild was formed on a cold winter’s day back in February of 1987. They met the second and fourth Monday of every month from September to April for a 36 years, with two charter members still attending.

Klinger said the craft club days will remain the same as the embroidery group before them. Their home is the United Church Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s free to come check them out or experience the new group for the first time and after that, it’s a small fee of $5 per day or a yearly fee of $50 to help pay expenses. Attendees can choose to bring a lunch or go elsewhere for a lunch break on the days the club is in session.

The new name, Artistic Endeavours, encompasses all that will be part of this new offering in Luseland.

Klinger said, at one time, 27 members from Luseland, Kerrobert, Denzil and surrounding districts were part of the guild. Teas, bake sale and raffles were held to help fund instructors.

As the popularity of needlework faded and members aged or moved away the need was seen to evolve, thus ending the Prairie Sunset Embroiders’ Guild and creation of the Artistic Endeavours craft club.
