KERROBERT — It was ribbon cutting time Sept. 16 for the Kerrobert KCS football field during a celebration of the new permanent lights. This light project has been in the works for a couple of years and they were put up this past summer. The evening started with the home openers of both junior and senior Rebels football teams.
Several guest speakers took part in the event to talk about the process of this project, which included getting a committee spearhead and seek donations while sourcing the lights and materials, electricians and other details. Reinbold Electric put up a guaranteed 50/50 of $1,000 that ended up growing into a take-home prize of just over $,1200. The winning ticket was purchased by Nancy Charteris of Kerrobert.
The Senior Rebels capped off the evening with a 54 to 38 victory over the visiting team from Macklin.
The crews are busy getting the arena ready for another season of great hockey action. The fire department came out Sept. 13 to wash down the cement surface, and then the plant was turned on the next day. The lines should be painted on this week and ready for skating by the weekend Sept. 24.
Paving crews should be all wrapped up by Sept. 24 as well. It is so great to see kids flying up and down the newly paved streets with their skateboards, scooters and bikes. Kerrobert hasn’t had quality streets like this for many years, and it is wonderful to see the excitement throughout the community to see this first phase nearing completion.
Kerrobert is gearing up for a harvest festival to take place on Thanksgiving weekend. We will have all kinds of events including a parade, bouncy castles with other kids’ events, a football game and a Kerrobert Tiger Hockey. As part of the game, we will also celebrate the 75 anniversary of our beloved arena. Our arena was a Second World War airplane hanger that was dismantled in North Battleford, hauled to Kerrobert and reconstructed into what we have standing today.
The festival is still adding attractions so stay tuned for more of what the weekend festival will have to offer.
