LUSELAND - A Remembrance Day tribute was held Nov. 11 at the Legion Park by the cenotaph, where two minutes of silence were observed and Last Post was played to honour and remember those who have gave so much for the freedom that we enjoy. Local residents were asked to stand out on their doorstep if not able to make it to the park and take time to remember. Brian Honecker of the Luseland Legion No. 146 organized the tribute.
Luseland town council has scheduled a strategic planning meeting for Nov. 23. Council members hope to do more long-term financial forecasting and capital asset renewal and acquisition planning into the future.
The Luseland Community Development Committee would like to thank all those who signed up for the mental health workshop that was held Nov. 6 at Luseland Credit Union. The Canadian Agricultural Network sponsored the workshop. Thank you to the 18 businesses in Luseland that sponsored the nutrition breaks and lunch that was served for participants. I would also like to offer thanks to Kyle Anderson of Bridges Health from Saskatoon, who was the speaker. We feel it is imperative to de-stigmatize mental illness and this begins to happen when we open up dialogue.
The Luseland Hall Board has planned a paint party on Nov. 27 with Jared Fischer to raise capital funds for the hall. Fischer, who is a hall board member, will share his artistic expertise and help those who buy tickets create a lovely piece of artwork. There will be a number of additions for fundraising opportunities at this event. Krystal Bazylinski, council chair of the committee, hopes to see lots of people come out to support this event and help make some improvements to the hall a reality.
Luseland council will be holding their annual Christmas light contest Dec. 12. Council will pick first second and third place winners of the yards with the best lights and Christmas displays. This year we will be adding a new category to the mix for the best decorated business in town. We find this annual competition helps encourage local residents to get in the spirit and light our community up with beautiful light displays. Even some of our rural neighbors have participated in the past such as Holman Farms, who have lit up their bin yard and equipment adjacent to the community.
I would also like to encourage our local residents going into the holiday season, to reach out and donate to Luseland food bank. Their needs often grow substantially at this time of year, as they ensure those who are less fortunate are able to have supplies during the Christmas season. Luseland Family Foods accepts donations for the local food bank on a regular basis.
