KERROBERT - Kerrobert has continued ongoing efforts to keep the community in bloom. In 2021, the local Communities in Bloom committee initiated a yard stake program wherein residents entered their yards in various categories and winners would be awarded a Kerrobert CiB yard stake, showing the community that their efforts were recognized that year.
The community also participated in the national CiB initiative “Hope is Growing” wherein people were encouraged to plant yellow flowering plants in their yards as yellow is the international color for hope. In a pandemic year, Kerrobert knew that hope needed to be evident and amongst us more than ever.
The Kerrobert CiB committee received 23 nominations through both the yard stake initiative as well as the “Hope is Growing” campaign. The CiB program in Kerrobert is in a “friends” status this year with Provincial/National CiB, therefore all award winners were selected by the local committee.
Recreation Director Bobbi Hebron says, “These efforts are a testament to how many people put great effort into their properties this year. We are thankful to everyone who works hard to keep our community beautiful, including our local CiB committee and our Chamber of Commerce.”
The Kerrobert Courthouse yard and other venues around town were also beautified thanks to volunteers ensuring that the community was kept in bloom all summer, sometimes resulting in an extra challenge involving additional efforts due to the ongoing drought conditions.
Main winners for this year were: Most deserving yard – Brad and Tracy Heidt; Hope is Growing Yard – Carol Grosskopf – Most Beautiful Business – Pioneer Haven.
