KERROBERT — Kerrobert Kinsmen member, Ashton Tetzlaff says their club is happy with the return to normal, admitting they are busier than ever, but club members are loving it.
The service club says the pandemic pause of not being involved or engaged in their community was tough and members have cherished the opportunity to reignite.
The Kinsmen are currently engaged in their annual Christmas tree sales, earmarked for Telemiracle fundraising, as 100 per cent of the profits goes towards the provincial charity. Teztlaff affirms the club also makes a separate donation towards the provincial telethon.
To wrap up a busy year, the club is also hosting a dance to bring the New Year’s dance tradition back to town and have enlisted a live band for the evening. The activity will also include a fundraiser for Marty Hucklebee, former community member who is battling some medical/health issues.
2022 has been a full year for the men’s service club. They kicked in $25,000 for the arena’s Zamboni purchase and were part of several activities over the summer, a time when normally there would be a summer recess.
Kerrobert was hit with a sudden, summer storm that rallied the Kinsmen into quickly establishing a barbecue for volunteers helping with the aftermath and resulting community clean up, serving more than 400.
Then along came another summer event pulled together in eight days as the club rallied host the Miles of Mayhem race stop coming through Kerrobert. A car show, barbecue, beer gardens and live music was added.
The club was also part of the Harvest Festival held Thanksgiving weekend.
Teztlaff adds, “In addition to all of the activity we were and are part of in Kerrobert in 2022, we have undertaken some much-needed building maintenance and improvements to our hall, along with our commitment to continued donations in the community.
Kerrobert’s club has 17 active members, and they say there is always room for more. Club member say their reputation and the fun they have in community speak of the camaraderie amongst Kinsmen and they hope that resonates into new members.
Community members laud the club’s welcoming, energetic, fun nature while appreciating their commitment to the community all year long.
