Former Unity mayor praises steady community activity in Unity

So much good to say about all of the events, activities, programs and opportunity in Unity say Luther Place residents

UNITY - Summertime evokes an increase in community events and activities, much to the enjoyment of residents of all ages.

Former Unity mayor, Sylvia Maljan, says she has always been proud of Unity’s busyness. Her husband, Dusan, who served in the Unity business community for 63 years shares her sentiments.

“It is so amazing what we have. Time flies by because there is so much to do,” said the Maljans.

“There is something to suit everyone’s taste of venue,” Sylvia says.

“Activities not only promote sociability but helps boost our local economy.”

Maljan pointed out that there are only three independently owned and operated teaching pools in Canada with Unity being one of those, along with the cities of Winnipeg and Edmonton.

Sylvia, intrigued with the questions presented to her as former mayor decided to quiz her fellow Luther Place residents on the same topic. While none wanted to attach their names to the comments, Maljan said their responses reflect pride in the community and echo how residents feel about what is happening in town.

“Try to encourage everyone to help out at least one activity and you will reap the rewards.”

“It makes us feel that our town is alive and well and it definitely helps with the mood and excitement level at Luther Place as it gives us something to look forward to, something to talk about pre-event and review post-event at our coffee gatherings.”

“Even though there are residents who don’t physically take part they like to enjoy the barbecues and suppers as well as just enjoying the view of what is going on.

“People marvel at how well the town is supported by all age groups.”

“It is wonderful for a town of our size and kudos to all the volunteers that make these things possible. We feel very fortunate.”

“The key to so much activity in our community is volunteers, something Unity has long been known for, envied for and blessed with.”

“Some seniors here are on the go many evenings while on their walks.”

“If you are healthy and able, there are many things for seniors to do.”

“No one should feel lonely or alone in town. Knowing all the events when seniors aren’t on Facebook is a problem.”

“Seniors especially like events with food.”

“The many events goings on are great for business. More people in town to see what there is to offer means the more likely they are to return.”

“We are thankful for our chamber of commerce and the many leaders of community organizations who put in a lot of work to make these events happen, hats off to them from all the seniors.”

“When we have multiple events at once it keeps us noticing or recognizing how many new people live here and make it home.”

“An ongoing success story is the many volunteers who are parents and want to offer activity to kids to keep them busy and off the streets.”

“People notice and they like to move to a town that has much to offer for entertainment, events and activities.”

“A multitude of events and activities help people stay healthy mentally and physically.”
