UNITY ‑ In efforts to implement a program to better protect local businesses and residences within the town of Unity, the Unity RCMP Detachment is seeking the public’s help.
“Any persons who would like to provide their address and information on cameras they may have on their property or at their business can contact the Unity RCMP Detachment to register for this program,” says Cst. Layton of the Unity RCMP Detachment.
The initiative is intended to help prevent crime and to develop investigational leads pertaining to criminal activities within the community. People are assured the information provided will not be shared with the public and provision of the information is completely voluntary.
Interested persons are encouraged to contact the Unity RCMP for more information or to register a camera system at 306-228-6300.
The RCMP having a directory of these community camera locations, can serve as an added measure for community surveillance and assistance when needed for investigations. A directory may help in timely follow up of reported suspicious or criminal activity, as members would have an easy-to-access list of who could be contacted for images that may have been captured on the cameras registered with this program.
RCMP across the province have continually reinforced the need for residents to be the eyes and ears of their communities by reporting suspicious or criminal activity that can help deter criminal acts or assist with apprehending those responsible.
Unity has a COP program, however the pandemic has reduced its ability to patrol in partners, for volunteer safety.
