A $135,400 contract for oil treatment of roads was awarded to Star Blacktop. Oil treatment was to be applied to access roads from Highway 17 to Lone Rock and from Highway 14 to Senlac, in the urban centres of Maidstone, Waseca and Lone Rock; and to sections of Highway 21 north of Unity and north of Maidstone.

Wilkie’s Midget Brewer Russell Nielson played with Team Saskatchewa at the Canada Games and came home with a gold medal. He was also picked up by North Battleford with whom he won a silver medal at Westerns.
The Luseland Garden Club handed out its Green Thumb awards. Joan Budd was recognized for a well-maintained yard, “designed with an inviting ‘living room’ effect.” Irene Allenback received an award for her “amazing combination of colour and variety.”
Prairie Springs Mineral Spa representatives were hosting an investment group from Atlanta, backed by a real estate broker in New York and an unnamed hotel chain, for a tour of the area.
Ten people were now diagnosed with West Nile Virus in the Heartland Health Region.
