SASKATOON - A Saskatoon man has been declared a dangerous offender at the Court of King's Bench in Saskatoon.

Joseph Simon Peter Yaremko, 43, has more than 100 criminal convictions, from over 25 years, including 12 convictions for offences involving violence.

Yaremko's most recent conviction, in a decision from Dec. 2021, relates to an incident in June of 2019 in Saskatoon when the offender committed break and enter, sexual assault with a weapon, and unlawful confinement at a residence.

In his 121-page report from Feb. 21, 2025, Justice Labach said the evidence supports declaring Yaremko a dangerous offender.

"The evidence overwhelmingly supports the conclusion that there is no reasonable expectation that anything less than an indeterminate sentence will adequately protect the public from Mr. Yaremko committing murder or a serious personal injury offence and he shall be sentenced accordingly," Labach said in his report.

Labach also noted the Crown said Yaremko met the conditions for a dangerous offender during the Dangerous Offender hearing.

"In its closing argument, the Crown argued that the evidence was overwhelming that Mr. Yaremko met the criteria under section 753 (1) of the Criminal Code to be declared a dangerous offender, and further, that no sentence other than a sentence of indeterminate incarceration, was appropriate in this case," Labach said.
