Man facing charges after attempted robbery at grocery store

SASKATOON - A man has been arrested following a report of a robbery on the weekend in Saskatoon.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on March 8, police were called to a grocery store in the 1600 block of 33rd Street West for a report of a robbery. Upon arrival, officers learned that a Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) had observed a man stealing items from the store; when confronted, the suspect kicked the LPO and attempted to flee, dropping a knife from his pocket in the process. Additional LPOs then attended to the area to assist in detaining the suspect until police arrived.

As a result, the 36-year-old man has been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, unauthorized carry of a concealed weapon, and failure to comply with court-imposed conditions.
