SASKATOON - A man was arrested and charged following an assault in a mall, yesterday afternoon in Saskatoon.
At approximately 4:30 p.m. on March 3, patrol officers responded to a mall in the 300 block of Confederation Drive for a reported stabbing. Police learned that, prior to the call, a male suspect reportedly approached three individuals who were entering the mall. The suspect became verbally aggressive towards them, but the three continued into the mall. When they were later leaving the building, the suspect reappeared and again, became aggressive toward the individuals. A physical altercation took place resulting in one victim receiving a stab wound. All individuals returned inside the mall.
Upon police arrival, the victim, a 16-year-old youth, was located inside suffering from a stab wound. He received immediate medical attention from responding officers before the arrival of paramedics, who later transported the victim to hospital. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
The male suspect was located and arrested in a mall entrance without incident.
Police also arrested a woman he was with at the time. She was located in possession of a knife which was seized. She was later released as she was not believed to have involvement with the assault.
The knife suspected of being used in the assault was located and seized from a garbage can.
A 23-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault.
