SASKATOON — Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation has announced the creation of the Dr. G NICU/PICU Comfort Fund, made possible through a donation from the Foundation’s board chair, Dr. Laurentiu Givelichian and his family.
This fund will help bridge expense gaps for families with children receiving life-saving care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
The Dr. G NICU/PICU Comfort Fund is designed to provide critical support to families facing unexpected financial challenges during their child’s hospital stay. From travel and accommodation expenses to other essential needs, this fund will ensure families can remain focused on their child’s recovery without the added burden of financial strain.
“It is truly heartbreaking to witness the challenges that parents face when their children are sick,” said Dr. Givelichian, JPCHF Board Chair and Department of Pediatrics with the College of Medicine.
“Balancing hospital visits with all the other financial responsibilities, especially when there are other children to care for, creates a significant stress on the parents and families. The Fund is designed to provide financial support and help families focus on what matters the most, their child’s recovery. Additionally, raising awareness about the challenges these families face, encourages others to contribute and offer support,”
“When a child is critically ill or injured, their family’s world turns upside down,” said Brynn Boback-Lane, President & CEO, Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.
“The Dr. G NICU/PICU Comfort Fund is about more than financial help—it’s about providing a lifeline to families who need to focus entirely on their child’s healing. This incredible gift from Dr. Givelichian is a testament to the power of compassion and the belief that no family should face these challenges alone. It’s a gift that will ripple through generations, offering comfort and hope when it’s needed most.
“With heartfelt gratitude, thank you, Dr. Givelichian and family, for ensuring that access to vital resources during their hospital journey are available.”
The Dr. G NICU/PICU Comfort Fund will be available immediately to eligible families, ensuring the gift of comfort is felt without delay.
