PRINCE ALBERT AREA - Three people are facing drug- and weapons-related charges after a vehicle fled from police in the Prince Albert area.
On Dec. an officer with Saskatchewan RCMP’s Prince Albert Traffic Services observed a speeding vehicle on Highway 355. The officer activated their emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and fled at a high rate of speed.
Prince Albert RCMP was advised to look out for the vehicle, which was observed travelling southbound on Highway 2.
Shortly after, officers located the suspect vehicle on Wahpeton Dakota Nation. They attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and again fled at a high rate of speed.
While officers pursued the vehicle, occupants threw a number of items in what officers believed was an attempt to disable their police vehicles. One of the items thrown at them was a loaded firearm. The firearm was later recovered. No injuries were reported.
The suspect vehicle came to a stop on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. The occupants were then arrested without incident.
Further investigation determined the vehicle had been reported as stolen to the Prince Albert Police Service. Officers located and seized a large lump and several individual packages of crystal methamphetamine in the vehicle.
As a result of continued investigation, three people have been charged.
A 31-year-old suspect from Prince Albert, a 27-year-old suspect from Prince Albert, and a male teenager from Wahpeton Dakota Nation are each charged with: being an occupant in a motor vehicle in which the person knows there is a firearm; possession of a firearm knowingly without a licence; transport a firearm in a careless manner; handle a firearm in a careless manner; possession of property obtained by the commission of an offence over $5,000; possession (methamphetamine); and assault police officer with a weapon.
The youth is also charged with operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public; and flight from police.
The 31-year-old suspect is also charged with fail to comply with release-order condition.
All three accused were scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Dec. 6.
