PRINCE ALBERT — In the constituency of Prince Albert, Randy Hoback was re-elected with 71.6 per cent of the vote — nearly 20,000 votes more than second-place finisher Christopher Hadubiak, the Liberal candidate.
“I’m just honoured and happy to be representing the people in the riding of Prince Albert. It reflects the hard work of my staff here in the constituency and in Ottawa. It’s a great team effort and it shows they’ve been doing a good job and people rewarded them by sending me back to Ottawa,” Hoback said at his campaign headquarters.
On Monday, Canadians re-elected another Liberal minority government. Hoback spoke to Â鶹´«Ã½AV and said, “Mark Carney made a lot of promises to Canadians and we are going to hold his feet to the fire if those promises aren’t kept. Addictions, crime and ignoring the West isn’t going to be okay anymore. We want common sense progress on getting our resources of oil and gas to market, we want to ensure that our farmers are not being treated unfairly and want them to know we have their backs when it comes to tariffs.
“Obviously, everyone is a bit emotional right now, I think we need to just take a breath and see what we need to do. We need to learn from our mistakes and figure out the barriers as to why people chose to vote Liberal and not Conservative.”
The Conservatives were 25 points ahead two months ago.
“This was quite a surprise,” Hoback said. “People wanted a majority Conservative government, especially in the riding of Prince Albert and in Saskatchewan and Alberta."
showed the Liberals were elected in 168 ridings, compared to 144 for the Conservatives, 23 for the Bloc Québécois, seven for the NDP, and one for the Green Party. The Liberals needed 172 seats for a majority.
Hoback gave a short speech to friends, family and campaign volunteers during an election watch party Monday night. During the speech, Hoback said the Conservative Party would stay positive and move forward.
In Saskatchewan, the Conservatives captured 13 of the 14 seats. The Liberals took one seat in the northern riding of Desnethé–Missinippi–Churchill River.
