Crack cocaine, handgun seized in police investigation

PRINCE ALBERT - One man was arrested, and a firearm along with multiple illicit substances were seized after Prince Albert Police officers responded to a welfare complaint Sunday morning in Prince Albert.

On March 2 at approximately 8:50 a.m., police were called to an alley in the 2200 block of 2nd Avenue West for a welfare complaint.

Initial information stated a person appeared to be unconscious in their vehicle.

Arriving officers quickly located the vehicle and the male occupant.

As the driver-side door was opened, officers observed a collapsible baton.

Shortly after, officers learned the male is prohibited from driving a motor vehicle Canada-wide.

At this time the male was arrested for possession of a weapon.

As he was being arrested, officers located and seized a handgun from his person.

A further search of the vehicle resulted in locating $2,960 CAD, ammunition, 18.6 grams of crack cocaine, and 13.6 grams of psilocybin.

As a result, the 40-year-old man has been charged with possession of a weapon, careless use of a firearm and ammunition, concealing a weapon, possession of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of property obtained by crime.

He was scheduled to appear in court March 3.
