Mr. Harper's followers found something to take RoboCalls off the front page.
Using Mr. Romanow's effective "corruption" of the week (which wiped Saskatchewan PCs from the electoral map), they are blaming last Saturday's riots in London (celebrating St. Patrick's Day) and last June's Stanley Cup riots in Vancouver on the Opposition.
According to the talking points/spin appearing on the blogs, both communities are governed by supporters of "soft on criminals, lawless left" (Mayor Gregor Robertson in Vancouver is NDP and Mayor Joe Fontana in London is a Liberal).
Give me a break, the major problem is alcohol with a minor in joblessness.
With bleak job prospects: union busting tactics allowed Caterpillar to strip/close their locomotive plant in London and move to Muncie, Indiana while Air Canada forced aircraft-repair firm Aveos Fleet Performance into bankruptcy by shifting maintenance overseas (including Chinese contractors).
After everything is sorted out, the lucky rioters will suffer nothing more than a headache/hangover. Some may be charged and end up with a criminal record, unable to travel easily or be bonded (a severe drag on your future earnings.) Again what for: alcohol.
Instead of incarcerating marijuana users for two years (six plants possession), Mr. Harper should amend his omnibus crime bill to include beer on the prohibited list. Lock up anybody carrying more than six beer for the same length of time. Alcohol assuredly is the more dangerous drug.
On average one person per week every week all year long dies on Saskatchewan roads versus none for drivers "smoking pot." No riots in Canada were caused by pot-smoking students. Yet we continue to support prohibition and incarceration, which fuels the drug trade, profits organized crime, leads to deadly shootouts (mostly between rival gangs) with the occasional innocent bystander getting shot, analogous to the Prohibition era of Al Capone.
So move forward into a brave new world, keep pushing for a greater crackdown on our young (lock 'em up and throw away the key), repeat the mistakes of the late 1920s and early 1930s. Continue to export jobs (union busting), keep our young unemployed, again like the 1930s.
