Dear Editor
In the wake of last week's City of North Battleford election, several commentators and candidates have attempted to create a narrative that the outcome was the result of bad weather instead of being the result of the collective will of the people of North Battleford. This suggestion is not only insulting to those who were elected, it is also insulting to voters. The supporters of every candidate had the same weather to contend with and suggesting weather would favour one candidate over another simply does not make sense.
I thank all of the candidates who let their names stand in last week's election. For those who were not elected, I empathize with how you are feeling because I know better than most how it feels to lose an election. It takes tremendous courage and force of will to put your name forward onto a ballot. Your life is turned upside down in the process and the result - no matter which way it goes - is an emotional experience. If you put your name forward for the right reasons - because you love North Battleford andwere willing to serve tomake it a better place - then you should feel proud right now. You answered a noble calling and did something that most people only think about.
Lastly, to the voters of North Battleford, thank you. Representation is a sacred trust that I do not take lightly. I will not to let you down.
Ryan Bater
Councillor-elect
