Here I am again, still on vacation in Ontario and enjoying the wonderful weather we have been experiencing. We are spending time with our youngest daughter and family, travelling to other parts of Ontario, resting, reading a great deal, writing, watching our granddaughter dance and babysitting. In fact, doing all the things I love to do. That is what having a vacation is all about, isn't it?
We are so blessed to be living in Canada. The scenery is magnificent and there are so many things to see.
Last week we spent time in Ripley. It is a beautiful little place with quaint stores and many interesting people. There are quite a few Mennonites living in the area, although not as many as Kincardine. Last year I saw for the first time a horse and buggy driven by a Mennonite woman dressed in black and wearing a black bonnet. I tried to take a photograph, but they do not appreciate that and turn their heads away.
I saw only a couple this year and never even tried to take a photograph. I didn't want to offend them. It is so interesting though, it made me feel like I was in a different era.
Kincardine is also a pleasant place. It was interesting to see all the enormous wind turbines scattered around the countryside. I understand they are causing considerable controversy among the residents living there.
Visiting Goderich again this year was sad, as a year ago a large tornado swept through the town, destroying some homes, businesses and trees. Much has been done to rebuilt, but it is hard to see the spaces where houses used to stand.
Goderich is an interesting town, too. It has a lovely beach and a large salt mine. The mine supplies salt to many different places in Canada.
Port Perry is another place I enjoyed seeing again. It has a nice beach and many interesting stores. It reminds me of Felixstowe in England where my husband's parents used to live.
Of course I love living on the prairies and am looking forward to going home, but meanwhile I will definitely continue to enjoy the beauty of Ontario.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and take care.
